        Music in school

Learning a musical instrument in school and singing lessons

For many years the school has had links with Essex Music Service, (EMS) who offer a range of musical options for schools to tap into.

One of those is providing DBS checked tutors to teach children, on a one to one basis, a musical instrument, such as guitar, keyboard and recorder/saxophone (woodwind) and, for the first time, offering singing lessons!

These lessons are held during the school day and can be for 15 or 30 minutes, running for 10 weeks per term.

The cost of the lessons is £97.50 (10 x 15 minutes) or £195 (10 x 30 minutes).

A 50% reduction to the cost of the 15 minute lessons is available for families on a low income (less than £24,000) and the lessons are completely free for Looked After Children, Adopted Children and those who have had contact with Social Care.

Children do not need any prior experience and instruments can either be hired from Essex Music Service or from the school (we have guitars, recorders and keyboards) for a reasonable cost.

Rock Steady Music School run a weekly session for children to come together to learn to play a musical instrument within a band setting.

At the end of each term, parent/carers are invited to come along to a concert to see the progress of the children, and see how their musical skills and confidence have grown.

                                         School Choir

We have a very successful School Choir and for a number of years it has been one of our most popular after school clubs, with over 100 children joining!

One of the highlights of the School year for the choir, is the trip to the O2 to join the 'Young Voices' event, bringing together Primary Schools from across the UK.

This is the largest children's choir concert in the world and is a fantastic and unforgettable event for children to discover their voices, grow in confidence and be part of something extraordinary!

Throughout the year, the Choir is asked to attend various other venues, including singing in Care Homes, attending the Tendring Vocal Festival, at the Princes Theatre in Clacton and singing at All Saints Church during the Xmas Tree Festival.

We have also entered the Rotary Junior Choir competition and won almost yearly, since 2019!

The Choir Club is run by Miss Smith every Thursday after school and continues from term to term.

If your child is interested in joining, please contact the School Office.

We are very proud of our school Choir's achievements!

African Drumming

When the children are in Year 2, we invite a local drummer into school for a workshop to learn some drumming skills using the traditional 'Djembe' African drum.

Apart from the wonderful sound this makes when the children drum together, it also helps with their hand -eye co-ordination and their fine motor skills.
