Safeguarding

Every adult here at Brightlingsea Primary School & Nursery has a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. Everybody in our school understands their safeguarding responsibilities, as highlighted through our induction processes and regular training.

Training and Development

Each member of staff who joins our school receives child protection and safeguarding training from their line manager or another school leader. Safeguarding features as a regular agenda item in our Senior Team and Inclusion meetings and in governance meetings. Our academy policies and guidance on best practice for child protection and safeguarding are freely available for all to view on this website.

Definition of Abuse

At Brightlingsea Primary School & Nursery we understand that abuse is maltreatment of a child.  This may be neglect, any form of physical, emotional or sexual mistreatment that leads to harm or injury, or failure to protect a child from harm. It can happen to any child regardless of their age, gender, race or ability and may be inflicted on a child by an adult/adults or another child or children.

Disclosure and Reporting

If you observe something or become aware of information about a pupil which concerns you, it is important that you share your concerns with the Designated or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads. The school office will make arrangements for you to speak to them if you cannot locate them.

Adult Conduct

If you are concerned about the conduct of a member of staff following something you have observed or a disclosure, you must report this to the Headteacher l. If your concern is about the Headteacher, you must report this to the Safeguarding Governor. The school office will provide contact details for the Safeguarding Governor if you need them.
